Coconut is an ancient tree that finds mention in our scriptures and its fruit offered in religious rituals and our food since time immemorial throughout the length and breadth of Bharat.
The lightly flavored liquid inside a coconut is water and is typically drunk straight from the coconut for a very refreshing and nutritious drink. It loses nutritional value quickly and will begin to ferment once removed from the shell.
How to extract Coconut Milk -
Break the brown shell of coconut by beating it gently all over with the help of a small hammer or mortar, the coconut usually cracks from the centre and can be split into two halves.
Remove the coconut by again beating it gently using the same technique, the soft edible part will leave the shell and come out.
Cut the coconut into small pieces and blend it adding a small quantity of water. Once turned into a smooth paste, sieve the mixture adding little water for two times. squeeze out the white creamy textured liquid - this is your coconut milk.
Do not throw the coconut remains, add them to any of your side dish or even to thicken any gravy.
